Taylor Hackford and Helen Mirren Selling Their Los Angeles Home for $17 Million

Academy Award-winning Hollywood couple Taylor Hackford and Helen Mirren are selling a longtime Los Angeles home for just under $17 million.

Built in 1911, the home has only four owners, all influential Hollywood figures.

The property has a main house and a guest house offering approximately 11,200 square feet combined with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, according to the listing posted Monday by Stephen Apelian of Coldwell Banker Realty.

It has approximately 11,200 square feet of living space.

Located behind two gates with a long driveway, the one-of-a-kind property backs up to parkland that will never be developed, offering seclusion, security and privacy that can’t be easily found, Mr. Apelian said.

Encompassing 6.5 acres, the grounds feature manicured gardens, a swimming pool, a five-car garage and a large terrace for outdoor entertaining.

“This property exudes Old Hollywood, and the fact that it has had only four owners since it was built and they’re all influential Hollywood figures reinforces that,” Mr. Apelian said.

Built in 1911, the property was first owned by Dustin Farnum, best known for Cecil B. DeMille’s  1914 American silent Western film “Squaw Man.” Subsequently, it was home to Mark Hellinger, a writer and producer whose short story gave rise to 1938 film “The Roaring Twenties” starring James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart; and later Gail Patrick, executive producer of the “Perry Mason” TV series and one of the first and most successful female producers in Hollywood, according to Mr. Apelian.

Mr. Hackford, 78, who won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for “Teenage Father” (1979), purchased the property in 1991, property records show.

Mr. Hackford also served as president of the Directors Guild of America for two terms and was also nominated for the Best Director and Best Picture for “Ray,” a 2004 musical drama film about the life of musician Ray Charles starring Jamie Foxx.

He married Ms. Mirren, 77, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen” (2007), in 1997. They were not immediately available for comment. According to Mr. Apelian, they decided to sell this home “because they are spending more and more time outside the state.”
