UFC superstar Conor McGregor attempts to get his son into boxing training but they end up in sword fight instead in funny social media video

Conor McGregor has always hoped his eldest son, Conor Jr, follows in his footsteps by becoming a fighter and it appears his training has already begun.

In 2017, McGregor revealed he had already started training his newborn son ahead of a career in sports as he thinks it’s a pivotal part of development.

“I have a son now. When he grows up, I’m going to put him into sport,” McGregor said at a Q&A event in Glasgow when his son was just five months old.

“I believe sport is the best thing you can do. I’ve already begun training him. He’s already leaps and bounds ahead of schedule.”

In August 2021, ‘Notorious’ provided an update on how his son is doing and expressed his belief that Conor Jr will be a fighter one day, as will his other son Rian.

“That kid of mine is going to do whatever he wants in this world. I will support him all the way tho whatever he chooses,” McGregor tweeted.

“I feel he will do it [fight] tho. I feel his younger brother Rian will also. Interesting times ahead. I will be happy just as long as they are happy.”

In his latest update, McGregor has posted footage to social media that shows him trying to encourage his son, who is now 5 years old, to box but it appears the toddler is not really interested.

After a brief negotiation period, the 34-year-old convinces his boy to reluctantly hit the boxing bag fives times in a post he captioned: ‘Everyday rent is due.’

In another clip, McGregor is trying to get his son to work on his defence using boxing sticks, but he walks away and takes a seat, and is obviously done with training for the day.

‘Mystic Mac’ pokes and prods the reluctant youngster before handing him one of the sticks and challenging him to a sword fight, something Conor Jr seems much more interested in.

Although his son’s training could be going smoother, life for McGregor appears to be better than ever as he recovers from the fractured tibia and fibula, he suffered at UFC 264 in July 2021.

In recent months, he has taken to a life at sea aboard his Lamborghini superyacht which is worth almost £3m and is one of his most extravagant purchases to date.

Play time will soon be over for McGregor as he is set to start a new gig after accepting a lead role alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Amazon Prime’s new re-imagining of the 1980s classic, Road House, which is set to begin filming in the Dominican Republic later this month.

After he’s done with his acting debut, the fight star has promised he will deliver the ‘greatest and biggest’ comeback in sports history by realising his three-belt UFC dream.

A number of opponents are said to be in the mix for his comeback, including Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz, and welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
