Love Island stars ‘friendship’ with Conor McGregor angers fans

People took to social media to tell how they were not happy with the pair

A large number of Love Island: All Stars fans are not happy with Luca Bish and Grace Jackson over their possible friendship with Conor McGregor.

As the final of the ITV2 dating series aired earlier this week, with Gabby Allen and Casey O’Gorman crowned winners, some of those watching the show took to X to air their displeasure at seeing Luca and Grace in still in the running to win due to their connections with former two-weight UFC champion McGregor.

In multiple pictures shared on social media, including Luca’s own Instagram page, the 25-year-old Love Island star can be seen happily posing with McGregor in multiple different places and on various dates. In some images shared by X users, Grace also appears to smile next to the MMA star in undated pictures, reports The Mirror.

Last year, a woman who accused McGregor of raping her in a Dublin hotel won her claim against him for damages in a High Court civil case. The jury in the civil case against McGregor delivered its verdict in November. The total amount of damages awarded to Nikita Hand by the jury was €248,603.60.

McGregor had faced an accusation that he “brutally raped and battered” Ms Hand at a hotel in south Dublin in December 2018. The court heard how Ms Hand suffered serious physical and psychological injuries and that she had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Ms Hand was taken in an ambulance to the Rotunda Hospital the following day where she was assessed in the 𝑠e𝑥ual assault treatment unit (SATU). A paramedic, who examined Ms Hand the day after the assault, had told the court she had not seen “someone so bruised” in a long time.

Ms Hand had also been worried about a tampon she had been wearing on the night she was assaulted. McGregor maintains the 𝑠e𝑥 was consensual and plans to appeal the verdict. Following the verdict several companies and businesses cut ties with McGregor and his products.

“Just a reminder that Luca is STILL friends with Conor McGregor, that should tell you everything about the person he is xx #LoveIslandAllStars #loveisland,” one Love Island fan penned on Twitter as they shared recent snaps of Luca with McGregor. “Wait Luca and Grace are friends with Conor Mcgregor ? #LoveIslandAllStars #Loveisland,” another added.

Prior to the winners being revealed, one penned: “Luca being friends with Conor McGregor is enough for me to say, Gabby & Casey take this win NOW #loveislandallstars.” Another shared snaps of Grace and Luca posing with McGregor and wrote: “People really voting for Luca and Grace to win when they’re friends with Conor McGregor?”

Grace has never publicly commented on McGregor and only appears in pictures taken at boxing events. Luca has previously talked about his relationship with McGregor, telling talkSPORT: “It’s an unlikely match, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s a random pairing and I think it shocked a lot of people when they see we are friends.”

McGregor made no comment as he left court after the verdict in November, but later in a post on Twitter, said he intends to appeal. “I will be appealing today’s decision,” he said. He added: “I am with my family now, focused on my future. Thank you to all my support worldwide.”

Speaking outside court, Ms Hand said she hoped her case would remind victims of assault to keep “pushing forward for justice”. “I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how afraid you might be, speak up, you have a voice and keep on fighting for justice,” she said.

“I know this has impacted not only my life, my daughter’s, my family and friends tremendously. It’s something that I’ll never forget for the rest of my life. Now that justice has been served, I can now try and move on and look forward to the future with my family and friends and daughter.”

Asked if she felt vindicated after the jury’s decision, she said: “Yes, I do. Thank you.”
