Vin Diesel recently shared his intentions of wanting to do a musical version for the franchise.
The space scene may not be the most bizarre part of The Fast Saga—at least not until its “Broadway” version premiers. In the recent interview with Kelly Clarkson, F9 star Vin Diesel revealed his intention of doing a musical version of the franchise, should the offer ever be on the table.
It sounds like an intriguing idea, especially remembering that the actor is somewhat a musician himself. He has two EDM-influenced singles, one record label, and an MTV Movie Awards live performance to remember. To sum it up, here’s the timeline of Vin Diesel’s short-lived pop career… so far.
9.He Performed ‘See You Again’ At The MTV Movie Awards
In 2015, Vin Diesel paid a touching tribute to his late Fast & Furious castmate, Paul Walker, by presenting an emotional rendition of Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” from the Fast & Furious 7 soundtrack album. This wasn’t the first time Vin Diesel, who made his stage debut at the age of seven, sang for the public. Back in 2013, he covered Rihanna‘s slow jam “Stay” and posted it on Facebook for his 38 million fans.
8.He Founded Racetrack Records Label In 2017
Two years later, Vin Diesel founded his very own records label. Named “Racetrack Records,” the imprint solely focuses on the actor’s venture in music. In addition, he also founded One Race Films, a multimedia company, and its video game developer subsidiary Tigon Studios. All the companies are focused on creating Fast & Furious-related products, including movies, video games, music, and more.
7.He Enlisted Kygo For His Debut Single, ‘Feel Like I Do’
Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, Vin Diesel hopped into the studio and enlisted producer Kygo for his tropical house-fueled debut single, “Feel Like I Do.”
“I am blessed that on a year that I would normally be on a movie set — and as you know, that’s not possible — I’ve had another creative outlet. Another way to show you, or share with you, my heart,” said the star.
6.Unfortunately, It Was Met With Negative Responses From Fans
Unfortunately, the single was met with rather negative receptions from fans and critics alike. While the tropical production from Kygo carries the whole song and gives it a refreshing and upbeat vibe, Vin Diesel’s croaky voice just feels out of the place. “Feel Like I Do” was released under Kygo’s Palm Tree House records label.
5.Another Single, ‘Days Are Gone,’ Was Dropped This Year
However, despite the negative reception, Vin Diesel dropped another tropical-fueled single this year. Titled “Days Are Gone,” the song “kind of represents how we all feel right now, reminiscing about a time pre-COVID where our lives were different.”
“I can’t say it’s about the pandemic, but I can say it’s about something that I think people will relate to. The nostalgic element of the song, I think people will really gravitate to. I hope they do,” the pop-star-turn-singer told James Corden.
4.He Appeared On The Latest Episode Of Genius’ ‘Between The Lines’ Series
Since the Fast and Furious franchise become a cultural phenomenon, many rap artists have referenced the films in their songs. Vin Diesel and his fellow Fast & Furious star, Ludacris, have recently sat down with Genius during the movie’s premiere week to discuss some of the lines from City Girls’ “Act Up,” Gunna’s “Dior,” and Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again.”
“That’s something that says, okay, people are reacting to what we are doing because we’re moving in our films with integrity,” Vin Diesel said, feeling honored. “It is a sense of validation when people mention or reference our cinematic universe or our characters. It means everything.”
3.He Was Nearly Cast In Steven Spielberg’s ‘Guys And Dolls’
Interestingly, during the recent interview with Kelly Clarkson, Vin Diesel revealed that he was nearly enlisted for Steven Spielberg’s Guys and Dolls musical although he “ended up not doing that.”
“For the longest time, I thought the Nathan Detroit role in Guys and Dolls would be a very interesting one to revamp, the character that Frank Sinatra played,” the actor added.
2.He Appeared On The Cover Of Billboard Magazine’s Latest Issue
Vin Diesel has also appeared as the cover star of the latest Billboard Magazine issue and discussed how he turned the franchise into a safe space for Latin artists, like Nicki Jam and Anitta, to showcase their talent. He even enlisted rapper Cardi B for a cameo appearance in F9.
1.He Would Love To Do A ‘Fast & Furious’ Musical
The movie star recently gave his stamp of approval should an offer for the Broadway version of Fast & Furious be on the table. Although there’s no official word on this yet, who knows?
“Well, I’m dying to do a musical… I’ve been dying to do a musical my whole life,” he said after the host asked him whether he would be down for a Fast & Furious musical or not.
