Conor McGregor’s ‘Staged’ Sparring Session Caught on Camera by Fans After Dana White’s Confirmation on Michael Chandler Fight

After three years of inactivity and having pushed the Dana White-led UFC for a date, Conor McGregor is finally back. On his official Instagram account, the bombastic Irishman posted a video of him sparring as he sets up for a bout against rival TUF coach Michael Chandler this summer.

While there are very serious questions around whether ‘Mac’ can compete with the top-ranked guys in the division since he is coming off a long lay-off following a horrific leg injury and on consecutive losses, McGregor is remarkably positive. While he is back in the gym preparing for his next fight, the date for which still remains unknown, most fans were not impressed by his recent sparring video.

Fans react to Conor McGregor’s sparring video

The sparring videos showed Conor McGregor working on his legendary striking as well as his takedown defense, with a series of different training partners. With his next fight likely to be at a higher weight class than 155-pounds, fans are curious if he will retain his exceptional speed and quickness. While he did well against his sparring partners, most fans felt this was not a good indicator given the level of his opponent.

Fans took to the comments section of McGregor’s post and pointed out all the shortcomings they observed in the video. Here is a sample of a few of their comments:

One fan was not very optimistic about McGregor’s chances in the Octagon after a three-year break:

“Bro tryna get sparring highlights these days cause he ain’t getting no more in the octagon 😂”

Another agreed with this sentiment and simply declared:

“bro is washed”

One fan advised him to pick better opponents for sparring:

“if you pick these inoffensive guys for sparring, you will get completely SMASHED by any top 50 ufc guy, as happened in you last fights”

Another felt sparring sub-par opponents was the norm for ‘Notorious’:

“Sparring C level fighters like always”

Another felt that McGregor had lost much of his striking ability:

“This dude really fell off, can’t even throw a jab”

One fan felt the sparring wasn’t as intense as it should be:

“Are they allowed to hit you?? Looks like they barely touch you and your like 70% filling em in haha”

Another was remarkably insulting and felt Sean O’Malley had become a bigger star than him:

“O’Malley is a bigger star than you; just remember that.”

One fan wondered why he wasn’t working on his grappling more:

“Why the heck doesn’t train wrestling”

Another agreed and felt his takedown defense didn’t seem up to the mark:

“Why does he look like he is struggling to defend those TD?”
