LOOK: Chiefs trio watches Timberwolves vs. Mavericks

MAY 26 – CHIEFS IN DALLAS – Potentially to the surprise of nobody, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is in attendance for Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals, where the Dallas Mavericks face the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, he didn’t go to Dallas’s American Airlines Center by himself.

Mahomes is joined by his wife, Brittany, star tight end Travis Kelce, and receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

MAY 21 – CHIEFS RE-SIGN DEPTH PIECE – Almost a week after releasing him, the Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed veteran defensive tackle Matt Dickerson.

The former UCLA product, who went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, is entering his sixth season in the league and hopes to spend it with the defending Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs, as he did last year.

Dickerson appeared in 12 games for the Chiefs last season, totaling 15 tackles and one for a loss, while spending time on the practice squad and 53-man roster.

MAY 14 – CHIEFS MAKE TWO MOVES – With rookie minicamp in the rearview mirror, the Kansas City Chiefs continue to make roster changes. Two of these came on Monday as the Chiefs released veteran offensive tackle Matt Dickerson to make room for their signing of linebacker Cole Christiansen.

Christiansen, a former undrafted free agent out of Army, spent the first two years of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he played in just seven games over two seasons. Christiansen has spent the past two seasons with the Chiefs, where he has made six appearances so far.

Five of those appearances came last season, where Christiansen never managed to tally a single tackle despite heavily featuring on special teams in those games.

MAY 13 OPENER! It’s not a surprise. But it’s a treat.

The 2024 season will kicked off with an AFC Championship Game rematch, as the NFL announced on Monday morning that the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will open the season at home, at Arrowhead Stadium, against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.

This is a “new tradition” of sorts, this set up of a rematch of a conference title game … and the Chiefs hope for a repeat, of course, as Patrick Mahomes and company outdid Lamar Jackson’s team as the Chiefs won, 17-10, in Baltimore.

The rest of the schedule for the entire NFL is slated to be announced on Wednesday night.

DRAFT A speedy receiver in the mold of Tyreek Hill and in case of a suspension to Rashee Rice? Check.

A big offensive tackle to potentially replace free agent Donovan Smith? Check.

Tight end potential to perhaps – someday – take the throne from Travis Kelce? Mmm, we’ll see.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected seven players in this year’s NFL Draft and in doing so filled most of their holes and kick-started momentum toward a three-peat Super Bowl.

Chiefs Final Draft List

Round 1 – Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

Round 2 – Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU

Round 4 – Jared Wiley, TE, TCU

Round 4 – Jaden Hicks, S, Washington State

Round 5 – Hunter Nourzad, C, Penn State

Round 6 – Kamal Hadden, CB, Tennessee

Round 7 – C.J. Hanson, OL, Holy Cross

APRIL 27

CHIEFS FINISH DRAFT SELECTING HOLY CROSS OL – The Chiefs have selected Holy Cross offensive lineman C.J. Hanson with the 248th overall pick in the seventh round. At 6-5 and 300 pounds Hanson has size but not compatible strength to match. He made 38 at right guard for Holy Cross and served as captain his senior season.

CHIEFS CLOSE OUT 6TH ROUND BY DRAFTING CORNERBACK – At pick No. 211 late in the sixth round, the Chiefs selected Tennessee cornerback Kamal Hadden. In seven games with the Volunteers last season he had three interceptions in seven games but was inconsistent as a tackler.

The Chiefs are scheduled to next make their final draft pick, No. 248 overall in the seventh round.

CHIEFS DRAFT CENTER IN 5TH ROUND – The Chiefs added to their offensive line depth in the fifth round, drafting Penn State center Hunter Nourzad. They selected BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia in Friday’s second round.

Nourzad, 6-3 and 320 pounds, was an All-Big Ten performer for the Nittany Lions in 2023.

The Chiefs are scheduled to be back on the clock with pick No. 211 at the end of the sixth round.

CHIEFS ADD DEPTH – The Kansas City Chiefs made two draft picks in quick succession as they elected to add depth at tight end behind Travis Kelce with the selection of TCU’s Jared Wiley. Two picks later, at No. 133 overall, the Chiefs selected Washington State safety Jaden Hicks.

Kansas City will be on the clock again with pick No. 159 in the fifth round.

APRIL 26

CHIEFS TRADE UP AGAIN, DRAFT OT – For the second night in a row the Chiefs orchestrated a trade up, this time moving from 64 to 63 in the second round to draft BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia. In Round 1 they moved up four spots to take Texas speedy receiver Xavier Worthy.

At 6-6 and 330 pounds, Suamataia was dominant in the Big 12 and considered a Top 50 prospect by most scouts. He’ll be an immediate plug-and-play protector for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

CHIEFS HAVE LONE PICK ON DAY 2 – Barring another trade, Kansas City will have only one pick on Friday’s Day 2 of the draft: the 64th and final pick overall in the second round. With no running backs selected in the first round, a top prospect – Texas’ Jonathon Brooks – could slide to the Chiefs. If they’re looking for help along the offensive line, BYU’s Kingsley Suamataia should be available.

APRIL 25

CHIEFS DRAFT TEXAS SPEEDSTER – The Chiefs’ need for speed is quenched, as they traded up from 32 to 28 and drafted Texas burner Xavier Worthy. A potential Tyreek Hill 2.0, Worthy ran a blazing 4.21 40-yard dash at the Combine and was a prolific kick-returner for the Longhorns.

CHIEFS TRADE UP! The defending Super Bowl champions didn’t want to wait any long as they traded up with the Buffalo Bills to the No. 28 overall pick. With that pick, the Chiefs added another playmaker to their already talented offense with the selection of Xavier Worthy

The Chiefs traded picks No. 32, 95, and 225 in exchange for picks No. 28, 133, and 248.

DENVER BRONCOS FIND RUSSELL WILSON REPLACEMENT… After moving on from Russell Wilson this offseason, the Denver Broncos have what they hope is their next franchise quarterback with the selection of Bo Nix at No. 12 overall.

WITH THE FIRST PICK… The Chicago Bears were “on the clock” for over six minutes before, to the surprise of no one, they officially made USC quarterback Caleb Williams the first overall pick of the NFL Draft.
