Conor McGregor attacks ‘inbred’ Islam Makhachev amid staph infection scare

Conor McGregor recently lashed out at Islam Makhachev on social media after fans suspected the UFC lightweight champion had contracted a staph infection ahead of his title fight against Dustin Poirier this weekend. McGregor also shared his final prediction for the fight and seemed to back Makhachev to get the win.

For context, an MMA-based X handle recently posted a picture of Makhachev and Poirier posing in their fight kits. The post specifically showed a zoomed-in image of a section of Makhachev’s left leg that looked darker than the surrounding skin. In the caption, the original poster implied that it was a staph infection.

McGregor soon shared the post and sounded off on the Dagestani grappling savant. The Irishman accused Makhachev and his team of unsanitary habits while predicting a submission loss for Poirier. He wrote:

“Staph again. This inbred, however, lives with Staph. This team is infested, make no mistake. Scruff b*lls. Whatever ya’s are into, I suppose. He still subs Dustin in the 1st.”

In a follow-up tweet, ‘The Notorious’ doubled down on his staph accusations and viciously attacked the Dagestani fighter. He wrote:

“Yous absolute scruffy f**ks I’m sick of yous. Wash your f**king self! Wash your clothes! Wash your mats! And do it f**king every day, you scruffy c*nts.”

Islam Makhachev on Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler at UFC 303

Conor McGregor is gearing up to make his highly anticipated return to action against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 next month. The last time fans saw the Irishman in the cage was against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, where he snapped his leg during the fight and was forced to the sidelines for over two years.

While McGregor is training hard for his comeback fight, he was recently spotted letting his hair down at a nightclub less than six weeks from the event. During an interview with MMA Junkie, Islam Makhachev slammed McGregor’s lack of focus and dismissed the Irishman’s earlier prediction for the Poirier fight.

McGregor had warned Makhachev against Poirier’s back check hook in a southpaw stance and predicted a knockout win for the Louisiana native. In response, Makhachev said:

“Dustin can land this with Conor who has become very old guy. But I don’t give him some chance to land some punch to me.”

Makhachev then backed Chandler to beat McGregor and joked about the Irishman training in the club. He said:

“I don’t know who is going to win, but now it’s more focus, more training Chandler that’s why he can beat him. Maybe [Conor] do some camp in the club.”
