Conor McGregor makes UFC contract claim that explains why Michael Chandler is so desperate to fight him

Conor McGregor has revealed just how lucrative a fight with him is.

‘Notorious’ was supposed to return from his three-year injury layoff against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in Las Vegas on June 29.

However, their clash was called off last week after the Irishman broke his little toe in a sparring session, which he addressed in multiple social media statements on Friday.

After showing off pictures of his broken toe and the X-ray that diagnosed it, McGregor returned to X – formerly known as Twitter – to explain why Chandler wants to fight him so badly.

The two men have been booked to scrap for well over a year, and despite this latest delay ‘Iron Mike’ doesn’t want to book another matchup with a new opponent.

Chandler, who has been fit to fight all along, hasn’t competed since suffering a third-round submission defeat when he fought Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in November 2022.

Some people have pointed out he could’ve earned several UFC paydays rather than wait for a bigger one to take on McGregor, who has now responded by leaking information about Chandler’s contract.

He tweeted: “Chandler is getting paid 10x of what his contract states for other fights.”

“Meaning he would need to fight 10 fights to make what he would make in this one. I’m The One.

“For those saying he could have fought 2 or 3 times by now etc. He’d need 10 to break even with this cheque.”

UFC CEO Dana White expects Chandler to wait it out for a fight with McGregor, but he’s also willing to book him on whatever card he wants for being such a team player.

“I think poor Chandler wants to wait for Conor McGregor,” White said during an interview with Jim Rome earlier this week.

“Whatever he wants to do. If he wants to get a fight this summer, we’ll do whatever he wants. He’s one of the greatest athletes I’ve ever worked with.

“He’s a good human being and I like him a lot. Whatever he wants to do, we’ll figure out for him.”

McGregor’s long-time teammate, Peter Queally, recently told talkSPORT MMA that the goal is to rebook his pal’s fight with Chandler for September.

An extra few months on the sidelines won’t bother Chandler if McGregor is right and he’s earning 10 times more than he would for any other UFC fight.
