Director Edgar Wright is allegedly in talks to helm Sydney Sweeney’s Barbarella remake. Based on the French comic book, Roger Vadim’s 1968 science fiction picture starring Jane Fonda as the title space traveler tasked with tracking down the villainous scientist Durand Durand, who poses a threat to the galaxy’s continued wickedness. Despite becoming a cult favorite, Barbarella wasn’t a huge film office success. In October 2022, it was revealed that Sweeney would be starring in a remake.

Now, according to Deadline, the Barbarella remake is in talks with Wright to direct. Jane Goldman and Honey Ross are also being eyed to co-write the script. Wright has reportedly been interested in the project for a while, even meeting with Sweeney shortly after it was initially announced, though he only committed to developing it as a potential directing opportunity.
