Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga get a shot at DIY for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga finished off a worn-out Street Profits team to earn a Gauntlet Match at WWE SmackDown (July 26, 2024) and a title opportunity against DIY.

Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga prevailed in a Gauntlet Match at WWE SmackDown (July 26, 2024) to position themselves as the next challengers to Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa for the WWE Tag Team Titles.

The search for new contenders was set in motion after DIY foiled an A-Town Down Under rematch , as they were set to regain the titles they lost in Toronto. Because of this, the blue brand’s Tag Team Division was set in motion with Pretty Deadly , The OC , The Street Profits , Legado del Fantasma , The Bloodline , and Baron Corbin-Apollo Crews all competing to be next in line for the title.

Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga win Gauntlet Match on SmackDown

Baron Corbin & Apollo Crews vs. Angel & Berto

Apollo Crews comes on strong to try and take control of the match after an intense start by the Mexicans. Crews catches Angel to punish him with up to three «German Suplexes» and then corners him in the corner. Apollo takes height, but is greeted on his landing with a knee; Angel continues the offensive with a «Double Underhook Backbreaker», but Baron Corbin intervenes to avoid the defeat of his partner. Berto tries to help his partner, but is sent against the steel steps. Corbin receives the relay and finishes Angel with an «End Of Days». | »Angel & Berto are eliminated.

Baron Corbin & Apollo Crews vs. Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins

Montez Ford and Corbin tag in after being knocked down in an exchange of blows. Angelo Dawkins is unable to subdue Apollo at first, but eventually manages to take him down with a Back Suplex; Corbin breaks up the cover. Montez manages to get rid of Corbin, and Crews does the same to Dawkins. Montez and Apollo launch themselves into the air against their rivals, one on each end of the ring! Upon his return to the ring, Ford knocks Crews down with a Forearm and then joins Ford to finish him off with a Spinebuster-Neckbreaker Combo. | »Baron Corbin & Apollo Crews are eliminated.

Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins vs Kit Wilson & Elton Prince

Prretty Deadly makes a quick entrance to try and take advantage of The Street Profits ‘ accumulated fatigue . Kit Wilson sets about dealing damage to Ford’s left leg and quickly combines in his corner with Elton Prince to not allow his rival to have a break. Montez manages to escape from Wilson after a couple of minutes and lets his partner in.

Angelo Dawkins comes in hot and punishes Elton Prince in the corner, but can’t get the three count. Kit Wilson had taken over for his partner without Dawkins noticing, but Pretty Deadly’s plan doesn’t progress because The Profits combine to knock them out . | »Kit Wilson & Elton Prince are eliminated.

Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins vs. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows

The OC also quickly combine to attack Montez Ford, taking advantage of the fact that The Street Profits now have a lot more punishment accumulated. Ford manages to connect a “DDT” on Luke Gallows, but is left lying on the canvas, unable to try to reach his corner for help. Karl Anderson enters to continue the offensive, but is sent out of the ring; Ford also takes care of Gallows and finally gives the relay.

Dawkins celebrates with a big dive into the air, but upon his return to the ring, Anderson takes him down with a Spinebuster. The OC tries to finish Dawkins with a Magic Killer, but Dawkins surprises Gallows with a Roll-Up for the win, while Ford prevents Anderson from re-entering the ring to interrupt the coverage. | »Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows are eliminated.

Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins vs Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga

Despite all the physical punishment, Montez Ford continues to show impressive stamina to not fall so easily to his rivals. Tama Tonga & Jacob Fatu take Dawkins out of the ring to attack him two on one, but Ford flies in to take them all down. Montez tries to finish Tama Tonga on his return to the ring, but can’t complete his move. Jacob Fatu leaves Dawkins lying down after launching himself with a “Suicide Dive” and this leaves him with a clear path to finish off Montez Ford. Fatu sent a “Super Kick” sequence on Ford, followed by a “Samoan Drop” and a “Moonsault” to end the fight. | »Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga earn a title opportunity against DIY!
