Neymar, 26, had an operation on his fifth metatarsal yesterday and faces a race against time to be fit for Brazil in the World Cup.

He will be assessed by PSG bosses in six weeks to determine when he will be able to return to training.

Football’s showpiece event starts in Moscow on June 14 and Neymar has been told he can expect to be out for three months.

The former Barcelona man was seen boarding a private plane at Pampulha Airport in Belo Horizonte. He underwent surgery in the Mater Dei hospital in the same city.

A spokesperson for the Brazilian football federation confirmed the operation was a success.

They said: “Neymar is already in his room. It went well.”

Neymar broke his fifth metatarsal – the bone leading to his small toe – during a 3-0 drubbing of Marseille on February 25.

He has scored 28 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for PSG.

Neymar can expect to be on crutches for around two to three weeks before he begins exercising the foot again.

The Ligue 1 leaders face Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday. Zinedine Zidane’s side have a 3-1 advantage from the first leg.

Neymar is definitely out, fellow forward Kylian Mbappe is a concern and Los Blancos star Cristiano Ronaldo sparked fears when he was seen icing his calf after Real’s win over Getafe.
