The Bailong, also known as the “Elevator of the Hundred Dragons”, is located on the wall of Wulingyuan Mountain, precisely in the beautiful ??Zhangjiajie Forest Park in Hunan, China. This incredible structure rises along the side of the wall and reaches a height of 326 meters, making it possible to admire the breathtaking landscape of the famous rock pillars that inspired the film Avatar.The Bailong Elevator was built in just three years (1999-2002) and has been featured in the Guinness Book of World Records since 2005 as the tallest, heaviest and fastest outdoor elevator in the world. This impressive engineering project cost over 19 million dollars and consists of three glass elevators, each capable of carrying over 50 people to the top in one and a half minutes.The elevator, built in this picturesque UNESCO World Heritage Site in (declared in 1992) caused a fair deal of controversy due to the impact created on the surrounding environment. However, the huge tourist flow to Bailong seems to have overcome any obstacle.
