Meghan Markle appeared at a red carpet event on Saturday night rewearing a revealing red gown she had previously debuted in 2021.
The duchess, 43, was pictured at the LA Children’s Hospital gala without her husband Prince Harry, who has been on a number of solo engagements over the past three weeks.
While many commented on how Meghan’s dress looked, others noticed how the outfit choice could have been a dig at the Royal Family in a subtle message.
Meghan had previously spoken about how she wore neutral colours at royal engagements to blend in and not upstage anyone, a direct contrast to the striking red she wore in front of the cameras in LA this weekend.
In the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, the mum-of-two said: “To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there’s a group event,” she said. “But then you also should never be wearing the same colour as one of the other more senior members of the family.
“So I was like…well, what’s a colour they’ll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White?
“So I wore a lot of muted tones but it was also so I could just blend in. I’m not trying to stand out here.
“There’s no version of me joining this family and trying not to do everything I could to fit in.
“Until that last week in the UK, I rarely wore colour and I never wanted to upstage or ruffle any feathers, so I just tried to blend in. But I wore a lot of colour that week. I felt, ‘Well, let’s just look like a rainbow.”
Meghan’s appearance at the event on Saturday comes after rumours that her and husband Prince Harry could be going their separate ways professionally.
The duke has conducted a string of solo engagements without his wife since his 40th birthday last month, including a visit to the UK for the WellChild Awards 2024.
It is believed Meghan stayed home to look after the couple’s two children Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
