Conor McGregor tells WWE champion Cody Rhodes he will ‘see you soon’ after teasing MMA retirement

Conor McGregor has told Cody Rhodes that he will ‘see you soon’ after receiving a positive review of his whiskey from the WWE Champion.

The legendary UFC star is currently awaiting news on his octagon comeback, although he told Bloody Elbow that he expects it to take place on February 1 against Dan Hooker in Saudi Arabia. And he has also teased a potential retirement from the sport, telling fans yesterday that he was saying “goodbye”.

There has always been a belief that McGregor would make a great WWE Superstar, given his audacious personality and electricity in front of a crowd. And he appeared to tease a potential meeting with their top star in a tweet this morning.

Cody Rhodes wants to see Conor McGregor come to WWE

During a recent segment with MMA media personality The Schmo, Cody Rhodes had a taste of Conor McGregor’s whiskey brand Proper Twelve. The pair both had a sip, with Rhodes noting that it’s a ‘classy’ taste.

And in their interview, Rhodes noted that he was really keen to see the Irishman “just dip his toes in the water with WWE”. “We were talking about Proper Twelve whiskey and Conor,” he explained. “Just dip his toes.

“The competition environment in WWE is different to what you might think. It’s so much about who has the most discipline, who’s the most professional, getting to a WrestleMania and I feel like someone who has competed at the highest level like he has and so many amazing fights I think it’s just time.

“He could dip into the more entertainment side of sports entertainment. I think he would be great at it, I really do.”

Conor McGregor opens the door to a future meeting with Cody Rhodes

After watching the clip on social media, which also included Rhodes naming McGregor on his Mount Rushmore of MMA fighters, the Irishman appeared delighted. He took to X to share his appreciation for the WWE Champion, and even teased a future meeting.

“The Schmo and the undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes enjoying themselves some smooth Proper Whiskey,” he wrote, before adding: “CLASS PERSONIFIED!”

But the final sentence was what got fans talking, with McGregor adding: “Love it Cody, see you soon,” along with an emoji of a set of eyes. He has at times been abrasive towards WWE personalities, but appears to respect Rhodes, who won the belt after a lengthy build at WrestleMania in April.

Conor McGregor teased retirement from MMA

It may be the perfect time for McGregor to make his move into the ring, particularly given that just yesterday he appeared to be toying with the idea of another MMA retirement. He has previously hung up the gloves, but insists that those were ‘political’ moves.

And it remains to be seen whether or not he was joking as he took to social media to claim that he was saying goodbye to the sport. After watching Khamzat Chimaev brutally injure Robert Whittaker in their UFC 308 clash, a fan told him that he should retire before getting hurt.

“No reason to come back to UFC or fighting in general, you have beautiful family, worth half a billion, businesses, as being a successful business man,” the fan wrote. “You made your dreams come true, becoming UFC double champ.

“Don’t risk your health or well being, you have got nothing to prove to anyone champ, continue to live life with happiness @thenotoriousmma.” And McGregor appeared receptive, telling him he was actually correct.

McGregor wrote: “Ya know what, you’re right, good bye,” but has since deleted his tweet. It’s currently unclear if McGregor is serious or just having some fun on social media.
