Conor McGregor had a front-row seat for a brutal bare-knuckle boxing bout.
The UFC legend acquired an ownership stake in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship [BKFC] earlier this year, and ever since he’s been championing the fledgling fight promotion.
After recently doubling the purses of two fighters, ‘Notorious’ sat ringside in Newcastle, England to watch any exciting card of bare-knuckle action on Saturday night.
The Irishman chugged a beer with one fighter who scored an epic KO, but another BKFC competitor has gone viral after suffering horrific injuries during his bout.
BKFC 68 star suffers ‘horror’ injuries in defeat
A light heavyweight contest kicked off the card at Newcastle’s sold-out Utilita Arena.
Kyle Redfearn started well in his promotional debut as he dropped 2-0 contender Dann Moir, but the more experienced man impressively worked his way back into the fight.
Moir opened up a massive cut above his opponent’s right eye, which was virtually swollen shut when the doctor called to inspect it in round two.
The ringside medic gave it a quick check before calling off the fight and annoying Redfearn, who could be seen mouthing the words ‘For f***’s sake’ in response to the stoppage.
In addition to the nasty cut and swollen eye, Redfearn’s nose, which was pouring with blood, appeared to have been smacked out of place by ‘The Destroyer’.
Footage of the fight-ending sequence quickly made its way to social media where fans praised the doctor’s call and marveled at the defeated man’s ghastly injuries.
One person tweeted: “Absolutely disgusting broken nose at BKFC 68 today. Horror movie stuff.”
Another said: “Damn?!?! Literally got his face rearranged!”
A third person added: “Omg that is horrendous.”
Someone else commented: “He’s not going to be moaning about it getting stopped when he looks in the mirror!”
Conor McGregor wants to fight bare-knuckle
Conor McGregor’s priority is finding an opponent for his 2024 UFC comeback after breaking his leg in July 2021 and spending over three years on the sidelines.
However, he’s already thinking about life outside MMA’s premier promotion as he’s only contracted to have two more fights for Dana White and co.
McGregor is on record saying that once he is free from the UFC, he’ll take off the gloves and get in the BKFC ring for a fight.
Dave Feldman, who is the promotion’s CEO, recently told BloodyElbow that he’s hoping to make a massive rematch between McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.
He said: “I’d love to see Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor in bare-knuckle because I think it’s a whole different fight, with the clinching that you can do and getting hit with the knuckles.
“We just think it’s a different world. So, it is a different sport. It’s different types of pain. It’s not necessarily that you’re getting hit and you’re getting flashes and concussed, but you get hit on the cheekbone and you’re like, ‘Oh, man, that hurt’.
“So, it really just depends on who is able to withstand that kind of stuff.”
