Fans have been waiting for the next update on Goldberg’s retirement match in WWE, but this may not be what they expected.
Since Gunther mentioned Goldberg’s name to Bret Hart, fans have been waiting for Goldberg’s last feud in WWE. Appearing at the Bad Blood PLE, fans have been excited to see Gunther face Goldberg in what is said to be his retirement match.
However, new reports have suggested a timeline for when this could happen, but it may not be what was promoted.
Goldberg might have just a couple of matches in 2025
When Goldberg returned to WWE in 2016 after 12 years, he claimed he was here for one last match. The person he’d feud with was Brock Lesnar.
The match took place at SummerSlam, where Goldberg beat Lesnar in 26 seconds and went on to have a second run in the company until 2022. Now, according to reports from Viper of PWN, Goldberg might be returning for just a couple of matches.
The report stated: “Goldberg is set to return to the WWE in the early stages of 2025. It appears he will return to wrestle “one or two” matches before riding off into the sunset once and for all.
Originally, WWE was interested in a Goldberg vs. Gunther match. They may have moved away from that idea now.”

WWE promoted Gunther’s feud with Goldberg at Bad Blood, leading fans to believe it would be his final match despite not making much sense.
Who could replace Gunther as Goldberg’s final opponent?
Bron Breakker could replace Gunther. Not only does Breakker share a similar move set as Goldberg, but his family has feuded with Goldberg in WCW.
Breakker also has a tattoo very similar to the one Goldberg has. These are just reports; WWE has not confirmed them. 2025 will reveal his opponent when he finally returns.
However, WWE may stray away from Gunther because they want to keep the title on him for longer. Breakker has become a fan favourite and a match with a legend such as Goldberg will make his stock skyrocket.
