Conor McGregor announces signing of ‘biggest girl band since the Spice Girls’ to Irish-based record label

Conor McGregor has announced the latest acquisition to his ever-growing business portfolio outside of MMA.

McGregor hasn’t fought in his primary sport, MMA, since breaking his leg in a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

He has embarked on several business ventures since, including promoting BKFCCredit: BKFC

He has since been spotted making several public appearances, including promoting his popular bare knuckle fighting league.

Now, the former two-division UFC champion is making waves in the music industry with the signing of new up-and-coming British girl band Sweet Love.

“Ladies and gentlemen. An amazing day for Greenback Records,” McGregor said in the announcement video on his Instagram.

“I am super proud and excited to announce the signing of the biggest girl band since The Spice Girls.

“Introducing…Sweet Love. Over here we have the beautiful Venice. We have the beautiful Honey. Gorgeous Jasmine and gorgeous Maya.

“We have new music coming soon. Real soon, stay tuned…”

Greenback Records was founded by McGregor last year, alongside music industry business partners Richard Buck and Julian O’Brien.

The Irish-based record label has the ambition of offering partnership deals to artists ‘in a way that hasn’t been done before’.

The Irishman is also a co-owner of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), and was the centre of attention at the promotion’s biggest event to date last month.

McGregor squared off with the main event winner and ex-UFC fighter Jeremy Stephens at KnuckleMania V, telling BKFC’s founder David Feldman to ‘make a date’ for the pair to fight in the four-roped ring.

The 36-year-old also released brand-new training footage this month, which teased a UFC return, but the video failed to spark any excitement from MMA fans.

Combat sports fans were quick to react to McGregor’s announcement of the girl band Sweet Love.

On took to Instagram and said: “WTF is he doing.”

While another commented: “That’s not Conor.”

McGregor’s business empire previously included whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve, but the Irishman sold the majority of his stake in that business for around $180m in 2021.

His portfolio currently consists of McGregor Sports and Entertainment, a sports management company, and The Black Forge Inn, a Dublin pub owned by McGregor.

McGregor FAST, a training program developed my McGregor and his team of sports scientists and doctors, is another company owned and run by the UFC star.

“I am excited to create Ireland’s first major record label, in an industry that I have had great interest in for some time,” McGregor said when he first announced Greenback records.

“To be able to come in and offer music artists a fair deal and properly reward them for their talent.

“This industry, like others, has needed an overhaul for a long time.

“I am excited for myself, McGregor Sports & Entertainment, to partner with Richard and Julian as founders to bring Greenback Records to life!”
