Michael Chandler sent a message to Conor McGregor almost a full year after their UFC 303 showdown was canceled.
UFC stars Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor were supposed to square off in a highly-anticipated showdown at UFC 303 last year. But weeks before the event, McGregor withdrew due to a toe injury, and Chandler wasn’t rebooked for the card against a replacement opponent.
It’s been almost four years since McGregor appeared in combat sports since his trilogy with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. While UFC CEO Dana White is hopeful McGregor will return by year’s end, a timeline for the former two-division champion’s MMA comeback remains foggy.
In the meantime, McGregor made some headlines over the weekend when he promised a future appearance in the Bare Knuckle FC ring. Since he became a part owner last year, McGregor has been one of BKFC’s biggest promoters and is a huge reason for the promotion’s rapid growth.
Michael Chandler mocks Conor McGregor’s ‘side job’ remark in response to BKFC tease
Chandler has waited years for a showdown with McGregor, and it didn’t take long for him to weigh in on McGregor’s proposed BKFC debut.
In a recent post to X, Chandler mocked McGregor’s comments about a BKFC fight.
“A “side job” of sorts….” Chandler posted.
Chandler’s ‘side job’ jab is a reference to McGregor’s recent run-in with Jake and Logan Paul in Washington D.C. While the three controversial stars shared a ride to the U.S. Presidential Inauguration, McGregor referred to the Paul brothers and KSI as ‘side jobs’ amidst rumors of a potential boxing fight with Logan.
Negotiations between McGregor and Logan centering around a future boxing fight fell apart, allegedly due to the UFC matchmakers and White. Jake blamed White and the UFC for not allowing McGregor to breach his UFC contract to box Logan.
As of this writing, McGregor hasn’t responded to Chandler’s tweet.
Michael Chandler linked to Paddy Pimblett fight amidst Conor McGregor return uncertainty
Chandler ended his long wait for McGregor by facing former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in the UFC 309 co-main event in November, losing by unanimous decision. But a late rally by Chandler in the final rounds kept his stock high with fight fans and pundits.
After the loss to Oliveira, Chandler called out McGregor again but McGregor remains disinterested in making the fight happen. Almost four years since his last UFC fight, McGregor’s possible UFC return continues to be discredited by fans as the clock ticks.
In recent weeks, Chandler has been linked to a potential showdown with surging lightweight star Paddy Pimblett. But as of this writing, nothing has been made official, despite Pimblett revealing a possible date for his next fight.
While Chandler remains in an unwavering pursuit of McGregor, his patience is likely beginning to run thin. Time will tell if the two stars will clash in the Octagon in 2025 or beyond.
