Brad Winderbaum, the CEO of Marvel TV, explains why the Punisher officially enters the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again when Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock team up. Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal, was last seen at the end of The Punisher season 2, when he went totally off the grid to eliminate criminal groups by himself. In contrast, Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, has elevated his legal profession and vigilante actions to a new level. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, he defended Happy Hogan, and in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, he battled criminals with colleague laywer and superhero Jennifer Walters.
Speaking to EW about everything Daredevil: Born Again has in store for Marvel fans, Marvel Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum teases Daredevil and the Punisher’s first MCU encounter. Winderbaum remarks, “working with Jon and working with that character is always really intense, really satisfying,” and reveals Matt Murdock finds himself forced to rely on Frank Castle’s violent approach to vigilantism in Daredevil: Born Again, suggesting Daredevil will be pushed to the edge by his MCU enemies.
