As an actress, producer, cookbook author, lifestyle influencer, prolific YouTuber, businesswoman, and mom of two, Tia Mowry’s calendar is always packed. That’s why coming home to a relaxed perch is such a priority.
“I’m really into feng shui and feeling Zen because I have a busy career,” says the star, who burst onto the scene in the ’90s sitcom Sister, Sister.
Mowry’s farmhouse-chic home in the San Fernando Valley provides the perfect respite. “I love bringing what’s outside inside,” says Mowry of her decor philosophy. “I love ceramics. I love wood. I love marble. I love plants. And I truly believe that the colors that you choose in your home evoke emotion and mood,” she says.
To that end, she curated an environment built on calming, cool neutral tones in collaboration with interior designer Jake Arnold. “I definitely needed someone to help bring my vision to life, and Jake is wonderful,” she says of Arnold, who has lent his eye not only to Mowry, but also to celebrity clients including Chrissy Teigen, Julianne Hough, and Katy Perry.
Since wrapping her latest Lifetime movie—the heartwarming, holiday-centric A Very Merry Beauty Salon—Mowry has at least a little more time to spend at home. She’s focused on her entrepreneurial pursuits, which include a cookware line Spice by Tia Mowry, and her natural hair care line, 4U By Tia.
While she’s a career powerhouse, nothing is more important to Mowry than her role as a mom. She selected her California home not just for its good bones, but also its family-friendly location. “I like the Valley because you get more bang for your buck,” she says. “With two kids, having space was really, really important to me. We have a nice front yard and a nice backyard, and we definitely make the most of it.”

1. A Carefully Curated Bookshelf

“What I love about my bookshelf is that as soon as I wake up, I see a photo of my children and myself and my family. It’s a reminder of what to be grateful for,” says the actress. Mowry has always been a bookworm, but for the past several years she’s been more intentional about hitting the pages. A recent favorite read, Brave New You by Corey Allen, provided the perfect source material. “There’s a quote from the book that I literally tell myself every day, which is to ‘be present, stay curious, and stay unattached.’ It’s helped me so much with life,” she says.

2. A Convivial Kitchen Island

“The marble island is the center hub of the house where everybody naturally gravitates,” says Mowry, who has two cookbooks to her credit. “Great conversation always happens there. Memories are created there. The kids will be—I don’t know if you’ve seen cooking videos that I’ve done on my social media—but we’re always cooking and having a great time. Lots of activity and love and laughter with family and friends happens around the island.”

3. A Custom Couch

In the Mowry household, the more guests, the better. “I love the size of the couch. It’s very welcoming, it’s very comfortable but, at the same time, it’s very stylish,” Mowry says. “I love bringing in furniture that looks great, is appealing and is also cozy.” So much so that her brother has been known to fall asleep there for the night. For big events, like the Super Bowl, there’s more than enough room for the whole clan, and Mowry made sure the custom piece worked with her open layout. “While I’m in the kitchen cooking, I can see everyone having a good time watching the game, just enjoying themselves.”
4. A Spacious Shower

Mowry’s powder room is her personal oasis. “The shower was inspired by one of my favorite hotels, the Greenwich Hotel in New York. I just remember seeing the shower door with these black frames and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this seems so inviting and also really 𝑠e𝑥y,’ ” Mowry says. “I love a good shower, and this shower doubles as a steam room.”

5. A Blissful Bedroom

The feel-good vibes extend to Mowry’s bedroom. “My bed is really, really important to me. My sheets are very important to me,” she says. “I’m a person who doesn’t mind spending some money on my sheets, my pillows, even my mattress.” It’s a king-size Temper-Pedic. Despite the room’s elevated design (she likes the black posts for their “really nice, sleek, and 𝑠e𝑥y vibe”), the bedroom is easily transformed into a family-fun zone. “Some of my favorite memories are of my kids jumping in the bed with me and watching cartoons.”
That’s the Mowry way—warm, comfortable, and welcoming.
