Russell Wilson’s Wife Ciara Mourns the Loss of a Grammy-Nominated R&B Singer and Songwriter.

If you’ve ever vibed to a slow jam that just hits different—smooth, soulful, and straight-up timeless—chances are, Angie Stone had played a huge role, or should we say voice in it. Her voice? Pure magic. Her pen game? Next level. She wasn’t just an artist but the blueprint for that rich, old-school-meets-modern R&B sound. And if you ask today’s biggest stars, from Beyoncé to Ciara, they’ll tell you—Angie’s music didn’t just play in the background; it shaped them.

BUT! When the shocking news of her passing hit the headlines, it wasn’t just the fans feeling the loss. Artists like Ciara were right there, mourning the loss. On Sunday, Russell Wilson’s wife and singer, songwriter, Ciara Wilson, hopped on her official Instagram handle and mourned the loss of the Grammy-nominated R&B singer.

Ciara shared a picture of Stone and captioned, “Rest in Paradise Angie Stone.” And the picture? It’s powerful. A shot that captures her true vibe perfectly. That big, bold gold chain? Statement. That electric blue outfit? Iconic. And the way she’s looking up is just enough to define that she knew she was bigger than the music.

In short: Ciara’s tribute says it all, Angie Stone wasn’t just a singer, she was legendary. As for her solo music career, whether it was Wish I Didn’t Miss You or the smooth groove of Brotha, we can’t deny the fact that her music wasn’t just about the heartbreak—it was about real life. Besides, you can just say, Angie had that rare talent of blending old-school soul with just the right touch of hip hop perfectly. The result?

Songs that sound evergreen and her voice timeless. And let’s not forget—before we’re enjoying her solo hits, she was already out there making both her name and waves in the industry. Whether as a member of the female rap group The Sequence or the R&B trio Vertical Hold, Stone absolutely knew how to steal her fans’ hearts. And she did that with mere perfection.

However, On March 1, 2024, she lost her life in a tragic car crash.

Angie Stone: A life lost in a tragic car crash

According to the Mobile-Area Mardi Gras Association on Facebook, Stone had a performance at a Mardi Gras event in Mobile, Alabama on Friday. “Angie’s performance at the 2025 Grand Marshal’s Ball was nothing short of phenomenal,” the association stated via a post. On Saturday, following her Friday night performance, the 63-year-old was travelling with her band members in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van to Atlanta.

However, when their van was just five miles south of Montgomery, it overturned before colliding with a semi truck on Interstate 65—as reported by the Police. Stone was in the passenger seat and was declared dead at the scene after the accident. Her band included 8 other members who were injured and later transferred to hospitals.

“Never in a million years did we ever expect to get this horrible news. Our mom is and will always be our everything. We are still trying to process and are completely heartbroken,” Stone’s children (Diamond Stone and Michael Archer) said in a statement. Angie was a three-time Grammy nominee and previously worked with music legends like D’Angelo, Prince, and Macy Gray.
