Megan Fox underwent a significant transformation for her latest role – here’s the reason behind it.

MEGAN FOX is renowned in Hollywood for taking on a number of iconic roles over the years. Her latest role in Think Like a Dog sees her taking on a new challenge – the role of a suburban mum. But now the film’s director, Gil Junger, has spoken out on why Megan had to go through a huge change to star in the role.

Megan Fox fans will know she has been around the TV and film industry for decades at this point. While Fox shot to stardom in 2007 with the arrival of Transformers, she quickly went from one strength to another. After appearing in the franchise for some time, she moved on to new ventures.

This year, Fox is appearing in just one film – Gil Junger’s Think Like a Dog.

In Think Like a Dog Fox takes on a role that her fans may not initially recognise her in.

Instead of playing into the cliched overtly 𝑠eđ‘„ualised women characters she has played in her career, Fox takes on a more delicate role.

During the film she plays Ellen, the mother of Oliver Reed (played by Gabriel Bateman) who has found himself caught up in a conspiracy which involves corporations spying on people’s thoughts.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk last month, Junger explained how he first had to craft Fox’s character around her before filming could begin.

While the concept may be a little unusual, Fox takes on a more grounded approach in the film.

As the mother of the family, she is forced to grin and bear any and all issues coming her family’s way.

And as a divorce looms over her and husband Lukas (Josh Duhamel), Fox puts in a surprisingly tender performance that her fans would not have seen before.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk last month, Junger explained how he first had to craft Fox’s character around her before filming could begin.

At first, he explained: “I got a call from [Fox’s] agent, and her agent said Megan read the script and she really really likes the message – would you be willing to meet with her?”

Although Junger was ecstatic that Fox was interested in taking on such a great character, he did have some concerns.

He explained that he needed to make her look a bit plainer to play the role of Ellen.

“When I thought about Megan Fox I thought: Oh my gosh,” he said. “If she does this … I’ll be very grateful – as long as she is willing to look average, if she could even get close to looking average.”

Discussing this with Fox personally, Junger told: “There was no way. If she didn’t allow me to dictate her look in the movie – and I know that sounds superficial – and I even said that to her when we first met.

“I said: ‘Your wardrobe is not going to be… I want you to be believable as the mum next door. Still pretty, but the mum next door.'”

Going on to praise Megan for her work and her choices, Junger continued: “And I thought to myself as a director, if Megan really gets what I’m trying to do, and she’s attracted to the movie – not just for a payday – but for the emotion of the movie, I thought to myself: I think it would be a really smart move on her part.

“And as an intelligent woman, it would be a really smart move for her because it would show that she’s not just a gorgeous woman but she can act!

“She’s an actor that can touch you and move you and for her, a movie like this is going to be one way to elongate her career. Because you’re going to be seen as a quality actor first and foremost.”
