Lizzo Opens Up About Her Recent “Body Neutrality” and Weight Loss

The body positivity movement, which encourages people to embrace self-love and celebration regardless of their size or shape, is thought to have been pioneered by Lizzo. The singer told The New York Times that she started shedding weight more recently and is now leaning toward “body neutrality.”‘

“The idea of body positivity, it’s moved away from the antiquated mainstream conception ” she said. “It’s evolved into body neutrality.” Some might say that body neutrality is a more realistic approach to self-perception. It’s a form of radical self-acceptance that acknowledges the parts you like, and those you don’t. It also notes that appearance is only one part of the very complex person each of us is, the Cleveland Clinic explains.

This isn’t the first time the singer has taken such an approach. “I think it’s lazy for me to just say I’m body positive at this point,” she told Vogue in 2020.“It’s easy. I would like to be body-normative. I want to normalize my body.”

She has sung the praises of her body in lyrics, and even spoken affirmations to her stomach on Instagram, but she admitted to the New York Times that self-love isn’t always within reach. “I’m not going to lie and say I love my body every day ” she said. “The bottom line is, the way you feel about your body changes every single day. There are some days I adore my body, and others when I don’t feel completely positive.”

Since ending her Special Tour, the Yitty shapewear founder told the New York Times that she has been dieting and prioritizing exercise. “I’m taking the time every day to put some love into my body ” she said. “There is never a day when I regret taking a walk or doing some Pilates.”

“I’ve been methodical, losing weight very slowly ” she added.

The only constant in life is change, and Lizzo chooses to embrace it in all forms. “It’s ok to change,” she captioned a 2021 TikTok. “I love every stage my body fluctuates to. The feats your body pulls off every day to function is iconic honestly 💁🏾♀️ love u.”

And for anyone who has anything to say about her current state, she has a simple response, she told the New York Times: “My body is nobody’s business.”
