Charles Leclerc becomes the first torchbearer of the Olympic flame for Monaco

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc will become the first torchbearer for the Olympic flame for the Principality of Monaco. The Monegasque native is one of the most decorated athletes in the small nation.

As per “Radio Monaco”, Charles Leclerc would be taking the flame across Monte-Carlo on Tuesday, June 18 at 2:15 pm local time. He would be followed by skier Alexandra Coletti, table tennis player Xiaoxin Yang (who qualified for the Paris Olympics), and bobsleigh pilot, Rudy Rinaldi. They would also be joined by Prince Albert and Princess Charlene on the run.

The Paris Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11 and will see the best athletes from different competitions competing on the biggest stage in the capital of France.\

It has been a special year for the Ferrari driver as he recently achieved one of his goals by becoming only the second Monegasque after Louis Chiron (1931) to win the Monaco Grand Prix

Leclerc has also shown remarkable consistency in the 2024 season as he finished in the top 4 of every single race this year a streak which was broken in Montreal.

Charles Leclerc gives his take on the Ferrari improvements

Charles Leclerc stated that the improvements in the results of the team were down to approach and the SF-24 being more driveable than its predecessor.

As per RacingNews365, the 26-year-old emphasized the importance of constant improvement to catch Red Bull in the 2024 season. He said:

“I think we’ve had a really good approach in the last seven to eight months in order to be very quick in addressing the issues that we had on the car, and that’s why we are the team that have improved the most in those in this period.””So we need to keep focusing on ourselves, not look at others, and keep pushing to optimize every single detail. But definitely, the biggest difference from last year to this year is the car being a lot more drivable, faster, and as a driver is just a continuous improvement.”

Charles Leclerc also pointed out that the improvements weren’t solely down to him and credited the team for their development and hard work in the last eight months, adding:

“I think as a driver from one season to the other, you always improve. However, when you look at the step we’ve done, this is a lot more down to the team and to the car, as drivers you cannot do such a step.”

Apart from his win in Monaco, Leclerc has three further podiums to his name in the 2024 season finishing P3 in Jeddah, Miami, and Imola, and currently sits P2 in the Driver’s Championship behind Max Verstappen.
