Anne Hathaway Faces Backlash Over Deleted Post Comparing Fans to the Kardashians.

She was sharing a quote encouraging her fans to be themselves, even if it’s a little different from the norm.

But Anne Hathaway had second thoughts about the Instagram meme she posted on Monday after receiving backlash from social media users who felt she was dissing the Kardashian clan.

The 33-year-old actress had shared a popular snapshot of Helena Bonham Carter with the caption: ‘In a world of Kardashians… be a Helena Bonham Carter.’

Inspiration: Anne Hathaway shared this Instagram meme on Monday which she quickly took down after it offended some social media users

In the image the 49-year-old Fightclub star is seen standing with her hand on her hip, wearing a cute and quirky outfit and rocking her signature messy hair.

The two actresses play sisters in the upcoming fantasy film.

She also added the hashtag ‘#regram’ to credit a pal’s page where she got the image from.

Mistake: The 33-year-old actress had second thoughts and deleted the post while explaining to fans that she didn’t intend on ‘pitting anyone against each other’

Backlash: The star took down the post after commenters complained she didn’t need to ‘bring others down’

But when some of her followers took exception to the sentiment, accusing the actress of ‘bringing people down’ the Devil Wears Prada star decided to take down the post.

One user slammed the star saying: ‘Really Anne? You don’t have to put other people down to bring someone up’

But some commenters stood up for the Intern star, writing: ‘I take it to mean that it’s okay to not focus on superficial things in a society where these things are what seems to be given more value nowadays,’

After deleting the meme Anne then shared a second post with the message ‘Post removed for unintended shade thrown.’

She wrote her own caption alongside it expressing her regret.

‘It never occurred to me I was pitting anyone against each other. Not my style. Peace x’ she wrote.

Earlier this month Carter talked to Harper’s Bazaar about her theory on beauty and ageing: ‘You can’t worry about things you can’t do anything about,

‘Bits of me are different ages, anyways. My knees are really ancient, I’ve always had terrible eyes and a terrible back. My arms and tummy are quite good.’

Anne recently welcome a son, Jonathan, with her husband Adam Shulman.
