The Angry Birds Movie 3 has been revealed, and a number of the original cast members will be making a comeback, fifty years after The Angry Birds Movie 2 first hit theaters. Launched in 2009 to take advantage of the growing popularity of smartphone gaming, Rovio’s initial Angry Birds mobile game marked the beginning of the franchise. The franchise has a rather straightforward premise: the player launches the title character, a group of irate birds, at several buildings constructed by green pigs who stole the birds’ eggs. The lore expanded through more games and other media.
Naturally, it didn’t take long for the overnight success of Angry Birds to spill over into other forms of media, and a series of webtoons launched the film and TV wing of the expanding franchise. In 2016, a blockbuster film was released, and The Angry Birds Movie was a sure-fire box office hit. The sequel fared much better critically but performed poorly at the box office, and plans for a threequel were never announced. However, nearly a decade after the debut of the first film, The Angry Birds Movie 3 has officially been given the green light.
