Conor McGregor reminds fans about his legendary UFC run by comparing himself to Alex Pereira

Conor McGregor has used Alex Pereira to remind fans that he was once the most active fighter in MMA.

The light heavyweight champion has become a celebrated superstar thanks to a combination of his knockout power, unique personality and willingness to take last-minute fights.

‘Poatan’ agreed to headline UFC 303 on 17 days’ notice after McGregor withdrew from his comeback fight with Michael Chandler due to a broken pinky toe.

Pereira was believed to have been nursing a similar injury, but it didn’t stop him from scoring a brutal KO win over Jiri Prochazka at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Incredibly, it was his fourth fight in 336 days. During the past 11 months, the former middleweight champion has made his 205lb debut, won a second belt, and defended it twice.

In contrast, McGregor hasn’t fought since breaking his leg during a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

‘Notorious’ was fully fit for some time before he finally got a date to face Chandler, but their bout was delayed by a drug testing issue and the fact he decided to make a movie.

Since becoming the UFC’s first-dual-weight champion in 2016, McGregor has fought just four times in eight years and only recorded one win against faded veteran Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

However, the Irishman used to be just as active as Pereira is today.

During 336 days between December 12, 2015, and November 12, 2016, McGregor KO’d Jose Aldo, had two fights with Nate Diaz, and dethroned lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.

‘Notorious’ wanted to remind everyone about that time on Monday.

The 35-year-old posted an image that highlights his and Pereira’s epic four-fight runs, with the caption: “Last time we seen hunger like Alex Pereira [has] was in Conor McGregor. Conor fought 4 mega fights in 336 days, while Alex did it in 337 days.”

Although a few of the fight dates are wrong and the maths is slightly off, McGregor found it interesting and shared it to X – formerly known as Twitter – alongside a thinking emoji.

The UFC’s greatest legend still hopes to fight Chandler this summer.

Dana White recently worried fans by claiming McGregor’s return bout won’t take place in August, September, or October as his next few months are already mapped out.

MMA fans are concerned McGregor may never return, but he seems intent on replicating Pereira by having a very busy year after his comeback, which he promises will be the greatest in sporting history.
