The Miami Heat are back on track following their win against the star-studded Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
Rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. was a key contributor in the 110-96 victory, recording 16 points and eight assists. Los Angeles showcased a plethora of highlight reel plays, but the Heat were able to respond. Jaquez displayed his talent on a possession late in the fourth quarter.
Jaquez began looking for an opening while big man Bam Adebayo held the ball near the free throw line. Adebayo passed him the ball at the three-point line. The Heat rookie exploded towards the basket, with superstar LeBron James guarding him. Jaquez began posting up before spinning and fading away over James. He drained the shot, extending Miami’s lead to 12 points with roughly four minutes remaining
Jaquez’s poise and veteran-like presence allow him to pull off plays like this against the NBA’s best.
James had a disappointing night for his standards. He tallied 12 points, nine assists, and six rebounds on 6 of 18 shooting in 38 minutes. Not to mention, he held the worst +/- rating in the game at -20.
The Heat are hoping this success will roll over into Friday’s matchup against Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.
