Watch: A fan hilariously gives Oscar Piastri money as the McLaren driver is caught dumbfounded

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri was left dumbfounded when a fan offered him money ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend. The Aussie driver is known for his calm and cool personality both on and off the track and always makes an effort to give his time to fans.

The 23-year-old has also shown his funny side to the fans outside the car whilst doing media duties with his teammate Lando Norris on several occasions. But he found himself in an unusual situation in Budapest as a fan offered him money after Piastri accepted their request to click a picture.

In a video going viral on social media, the excited fan just put some money on Oscar Piastri’s lap whilst he was inside his car and insisted that the McLaren driver keep it to himself.

Whilst on the track, Oscar Piastri spoke to the media about tackling the missed chances in the last couple of races to get his first win in the sport as he finished P2 in Austria and P4 in Silverstone.

In his pre-race press conference, the Aussie pointed out that his approach to driving had not changed from last year despite battling for race wins, saying:

“I don’t think the approach changes, no. I think for the majority of things that we’ve been doing in our approach, it’s been working well. I mean, of course, you learn things on the way, but I don’t think it revolutionizes the things we’re doing at the team.

“I mean, it would be nice to be close. I think we’ve come close a couple of times. So I think from a performance point of view and I think from a driving point of view, I think we’re doing the right things.” he added.

Oscar Piastri chimes in on the learnings from the British GP weekend

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri stated that there had been a few learnings from the British GP weekend as the Woking-based team found themselves in one-two but could only finish P3 and P4.

He told the media:

“I mean, a few. Obviously, a few specific to that race in particular. I think a few in general. I think as we’re now fighting back at the front, we’re competing against teams that have been in this position for an incredibly long time. In some cases, over a decade.”It’s been a while since, as a team, we’ve been regularly fighting in those positions. It’s not an excuse for us to be able to get it wrong, but we are inexperienced compared to some of our competitors. We’re learning a lot as we go along.”

Oscar Piastri has been an integral part of McLaren’s resurgence as the former is currently P5 in the Driver’s Championship with 124 points at the halfway point of the season.
