According to Fox News , stars Scarlett Johansson and Sydney Sweeney attracted attention when promoting the peekaboo style of showing off their underwear on the red carpet of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

While the female lead Black Widow wore a tight-fitting dress designed to intentionally reveal part of her Prada underwear, Sweeney’s bra peeked out from behind a pastel blue nightgown.

In English, the term “peekaboo” means “to reveal a little, full of surprise”. This trend refers to female celebrities deliberately revealing their underwear in a subtle way.

Speaking about this trend, fashion expert Melissa Rivers told Fox News : “Dolce & Gabbana did it 100 years ago. They created corset dresses that showed off their underwear and it became an important part of the brand’s style for at least a decade.”

The late 1990s and early 2000s were the time when D&G’s classic designs were at their peak. Rivers says that if you go back in time, it was normal for women to show off their underwear while wearing dresses in France and England.

Since the peekaboo style has been around for a long time, Rivers insists that Johansson and Sweeney are not the stars who are at the forefront of the trend.
