Conor McGregor has proud dad moment as son submits him in grappling practice

Conor McGregor beamed with joy as his eldest son submitted him with a rear-naked choke.

The former dual-weight champion is currently enjoying downtime with his family before returning to camp for a proposed comeback fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 310 in December.

On Wednesday, McGregor shared nearly seven minutes of footage showing him wrestling with his seven-year-old son, Conor Jr., who seems to be a chip off the old block.

He captioned the Instagram post: “Conor McGregor Vs Conor McGregor, how many buys?”

In the footage, the BJJ black belt lightly grappled with his son and told him how to make the most of every position they ended up in as his fiancée, Dee Devlin, and their three other children watched on.

Towards the end of the session, Conor Jr. had gotten to grips with the art of defending a takedown, so dad rewarded his efforts by allowing him to take the back.

McGregor was quickly caught in the same submission that Khabib Nurmagomedov and Nate Diaz got him with at the height of his UFC career.

“Keep going! I didn’t tap yet,” he said when Conor Jr. loosened his grip.

‘Notorious’ implored his son to squeeze as hard as he could and after a few seconds he tapped out

“Good job,” McGregor said while giving Conor Jr. a high five and pat on the back.

The 36-year-old then looked at the camera with a grin that stretched from ear to ear, showing just how proud he was of how good his child looked on the mat.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling was one of many people who watched the video and were impressed by what they saw.

He commented: “Proper backpacking skills.”

Coach John Kavanagh said: “Take my money!”

A fan predicted: “Future champ.”

Someone else joked: “Anyone else terrified of Conor Junior?”

McGregor was supposed to end his three-year injury layoff in June.

Unfortunately, his UFC 303 main event clash with Chandler was called off after the Irishman suffered a broken toe in training.

McGregor has fought through much worse injuries but is adamant that when he finally returns to the Octagon it will be as the very best version of himself.

“I’ve made the walk a multitude of times under those circumstances and given these bums an advantage over me that they don’t even deserve,” he said at Bellator Dublin.

“Now, I’m dialling it in. I’m getting this training camp correct and I’m walking into there 100 per cent Conor McGregor. Injury free.

“Perfection is on the menu.”
