Cape Cod Home Where Walt Disney Allegedly Penned ‘Fantasia’ Listed for $2.2 Million

A property on Cape Cod where it’s believed Walt Disney wrote “Fantasia” hit the market on Friday for $2.195 million.

Located in Centerville, Massachusetts, the shingle-style home that stands today was built around a water tower that was part of a larger estate called Fernbrook, which was built in 1881. Disney visited the estate when his friend Herbert Kalmus—the inventor of the Technicolor process—owned it, and Disney is said to have penned the 1940 animated musical film inside of the tower, according to the listing with Gene Orloff of Sotheby’s International Realty – Cape Cod, Osterville Brokerage.

The newly listed home was built in 1995, and the tower remains in use.

“The base of the tower is now the primary bedroom,” Orloff said. “The top of the water tower is a wonderful room with a bar and original huge windows that drop into the sills for air and an almost 360-degree view of Centerville and peaks of Nantucket Sound.

The home last sold in 2017 for $1.13 million, property records show. The owners could not be reached for comment.

Across the home’s 3,359 square feet of living space there are four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half-bath.

Other features of the three-floor home include an updated, modern kitchen, high beamed ceilings and wide-plank wood floors.

Outside, there’s a swimming pool and multiple deck spaces that seamlessly connect the inside of the home to the outdoors.

The home is located right on Centerville’s historic Main Street, putting its shops, restaurants and 90-year-old Four Seas Ice Cream, as well as Craigville Beach, within walking distance. The village of Centerville is located about 17 miles from the Bourne and Sagamore bridges, which connect Cape Cod to the rest of Massachusetts.

Orloff said Main Street is full of historic homes, with some dating to the 19th century.

“History in Centerville is inescapable as this village was home to many famous sea captains in the era of Nantucket’s whaling days,” she said.

And though the home is centrally located in town, its verdant landscaping provides a sense of privacy.
