Thomas Tuchel continues to be linked with the manager’s job at Manchester United amid uncertainty around Erik ten Hag’s future.

Ten Hag’s future as United boss has been the subject of speculation following the defeat to Liverpool at the weekend. The Reds lost 3-0 at Old Trafford to their bitter rivals, in what was already the second defeat of the Premier League campaign.

United agreed an extension over Ten Hag’s contract in the summer following the club’s win in the FA Cup final. The Dutchman is now contracted at Old Trafford until 2026, but just three games into the season, doubts are already emerging over his future as United boss.

And a report from the Mirror emerged today claiming that United will re-approach Tuchel if they ultimately decide to sack Ten Hag. United, it is claimed, are thought to have spoken to the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager over the summer during their end-of-season review before eventually sticking with Ten Hag, who is facing scrutiny after a poor start to the campaign.

United chiefs Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth have recently voiced their support of Ten Hag in the aftermath of the defeat to Liverpool. However, in the event that the club decide to make a change, Tuchel has already spoken about the level of responsibility that comes with managing a club of United’s stature.

“There is always a lot of noise around Manchester United. A lot of pundits in the UK are from Manchester United,” Tuchel said last year before United faced Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stages.

“You have a legacy from Sir Alex Ferguson which creates expectations around the club. All of us, me in Bayern and my colleague [Ten Hag] at Man United, want to achieve the same things.

“It is pretty common at Man United that little things become a bit bigger or the talking is a bit noisier.”

Tuchel is currently out of work after leaving his role as Bayern Munich manager in the summer, where he was replaced by Vincent Kompany. Ten Hag is now in his third season at United and will be looking ahead to the club’s away trip to Southampton later this month in their next fixture after the international break.
