Jennifer Lawrence Shines in a $10,000 Giant Red Coat at the Broadway Debut of Appropriate

The garment comes from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s label The Row

On Monday, Jennifer Lawrence rocked the red carpet.

The Oscar winner attended the Broadway premiere of the Second Stage Theater production, Appropriate, while dressed to impress in an oversized red coat, perfect for the frigid weather in New York City.

The item, a calf-length, collarless coat with two front pockets, padded shoulders, and double-faced cashmere, is from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s luxury fashion brand, The Row. Made in Italy, it costs $9, 990 at retail.

Outside the Hayes Theater, Lawrence posed in front of the play’s step-and-repeat, allowing photographers to take her photo. She had on a flowing black silk slip dress with a drop neckline underneath her jacket. Gold hoops earrings and black kitten heels completed the actress’s ensemble.

Meanwhile, Appropriate has received nothing but positive reviews.

The drama, written by Pulitzer Prize nominee Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, centers on three siblings who, upon their father’s death, return to his Arkansas home to manage his estate’s leftovers. “Suddenly, long-hidden secrets and buried resentments can’t be contained, and the family is forced to face the ghosts of their past,” reads a longline for the drama.

Leading an all-star group that includes Broadway debutante Elle Fanning, Michael Esper, and Corey Stoll is Sarah Paulson. Starring with her are Alyssa Emily Marvin, Natalie Gold, Graham Campbell, Lincoln Cohen, and Everett Sobers.

Lila Neugebauer, who supervised Lawrence 2024’s film Causeway, is the director of Appropriate. On Monday night’s red carpet, the two posed together.

A number of other celebrities were present, including Rose Byrne, Camryn Manheim, Morgan Spector, married duo Cobie Smulders and Taran Killam, Jane Krakowski, Amanda Peet, Andrew Rannells, Rebecca Hall, Tavi Gevinson, Jim Parsons, Michael Imperioli, Eduardo Ramos, Danny Burstein, Jennifer Simard, Miriam Silverman, and Amber Tamblyn.

Paulson’s American Horror Story co-star Zachary Quinto was also present, along with Paulson’s girlfriend Holland Taylor. Attendees included Colton Ryan, who costarred with Fanning in The Girl from Plainville.

Paulson returns to Broadway for the first time in thirteen years with Appropriate. The previous Emmy winner was Collected Stories from 2010. She also starred in The Sisters Rosensweig in 1993 and The Glass Menagerie in 2005.
