Aretha Franklin’s Michigan Estate Asks $1.2 Million

The Michigan house that belonged to the late “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin returned to the market on Friday with a $1.2 million asking price.

That’s a $400,000 price increase from the $800,000 the house was asking when it first hit the market in October, and it was taken off market just two months later, listing records show.

Located on a one-acre lot in a gated community in Bloomfield Hills—around a 30-minute drive northwest of Detroit, where Franklin grew up—the newly renovated property spans 4,148 square feet, according to the listing with Michael Hermiz and The Michael Team at RE/MAX New Trend.

The brokerage did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The home has a two-story marble foyer with a crystal chandelier, a two-story great room with French doors and large windows and a gourmet kitchen.

Plus, there’s a formal dining room, a library and five bedrooms including a master suite with a private deck and two walk-in closets, according to the listing.

Records with PropertyShark list Franklin as the owner of the home, though it’s not clear when she purchased it or how much she paid.

Franklin, who died last August at the age of 76, won 18 Grammy Awards during her career, and in 1987 she became the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

This isn’t the first home to be sold by the star’s estate. Last October her 5,600-square-foot property next to the Detroit Golf Club sold for $300,000, according to realtor.com.
