Harry Maguire left Villa Park in a protective boot after hobbling off during Manchester United’s draw with Aston Villa.
Maguire was recalled to the starting XI after his late goal against Porto in midweek rescued a point for his side. Maguire started alongside Jonny Evans as United battled to a point at Villa Park.
United are now winless in their last five but two draws away from home this week might have done enough to earn Erik ten Hag more time in charge. The Dutchman provided an injury update on Maguire when he spoke to Sky Sports after the game.
“He didn’t feel well after half-time so I had to take him off,” he said. “We know in this moment we have a lack of goals, in that perspective it’s not a good start, we have to step up. That’s an area we have to improve. But we have four clean sheets. That’s good because we have to defend proper.”
Another player who was taken off during the draw with Villa was Marcus Rashford, with the forward perhaps lucky to escape a second yellow card for a foul shortly before being withdrawn.
Ten Hag was asked whether that had any bearing on his decision to take Rashford off, replying: “Yes that was one of the reasons to take him off. If it was another foul probably he would be sent off. We can’t take another risk.”
