Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appear to have been snubbed by an A-lister after an awkward falling out.
The Duke and Duchess of Sus𝑠e𝑥 have been friends with Elton John for a long time, with the prince admitting that he will always love the music legend in his memoir Spare. The friendship was partly a result of the close bond Sir Elton shared with Prince Harry’s mum Princess Diana, even performing a tearful song at her funeral.
However, while the prince and Sir Elton were very close, it appears that their relationship hit a rocky patch last year that they may have not fully recovered from.
Tom Bower, author of the 2022 book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, claimed that the couple were not on the guest list for Elton’s famous Oscars party following the Academy Awards ceremony in March last year.
He said on GB News that this showed “they really are nobodies in Hollywood”.
The lost party invite also came after Prince Harry was reportedly disappointed with Sir Elton after the singer planned to serialise his memoir in the Daily Mail.
The duke, 40, was unhappy about this as he had recently had legal action with the newspaper, however the singer was eager for more people to “read his book”. This apparently made Harry step back from their relationship, despite the fact they once spoke to each other daily.
An insider close to the Royal Family told the Daily Mirror in 2018: “Elton speaks to Harry and Meghan every day.
“He’s an inspiration, an almost ‘motherly’ figure. He is a constant support, especially to Meghan, and is very protective of them both.”
The singer also had a good relationship with the couple’s children, with Harry confirming this in a video for the Rocketman singer’s goodbye concert.
The duke said in the video: “Thank you for being the friend that you were to my mum. Thank you for being our friend, thank you for being a friend to our kids… we love you.”
It is not known whether the couple are still in touch with the musician every day since the minor relationship breakdown.
