In south-central Slovenia, 6.8 kilometers separate Predjama Castle from Postojna. Surprisingly, the existing castle wasn’t the first structure to occupy the location; it was constructed in 1570, although the history of the region stretches considerably further back. Predjama Castle was first mentioned in 1274, when it was stated that a Gothic-style castle was constructed here because of the security that the cave provided. It would have been quite hard to get to the castle because it was tucked into the rocks, making it the ideal hiding place.
The magnificent Predjama Castle in Slovenia was constructed into the wall of a cave in the 16th century.
