Richard Gere Sells Connecticut Estate Purchased from Paul Simon for $10.75 Million

Richard Gere bought the property from Paul Simon in 2022.

Richard Gere is leaving Connecticut.

Two years after buying Paul Simon and Edie Brickell’s New Canaan, Connecticut, property, the “Pretty Woman” actor and his wife, Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, sold the property in a seemingly off-market deal in early October for $10.75 million, property records show.

Gere had paid Simon and Brickell $10.8 million for the 31.8-acre property, so the recent sale is a slight loss for him. A request for comment from Gere through a representative wasn’t immediately returned.

The English country-style property has two homes—a five-bedroom main house built in 1938 by Harold R. Sleeper and a three-bedroom cottage, according to the listing from 2022.

Outdoor amenities include terraced patios, a pool and perennial gardens. The property also has woodland trails, a rock-rimmed brook, a natural pond and a waterfall.

In April, Gere, 75, told Vanity Fair España that after living in the U.S. for the first six years of his marriage to Silva, 41, the couple is packing up and moving to her home country of Spain.

“She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so I think it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers,” he told the magazine.

Before his move to Connecticut, Gere had owned a home in the celebrity enclave of Pound Ridge, New York, which is about an hour from Manhattan. Gere sold his home there in May 2022 for $28 million, Mansion Global reported at the time, just two months before buying the New Canaan property.
