Fashion Designer Jerry Lorenzo Transforms a 1930s L.A. Home into a Stunning Ultra-Modern Oasis

Fashion mogul Jerry Lorenzo—whose Fear of God and Essentials luxury streetwear brands have gotten the nod from a slew of celebrity fans, including Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, David Beckham and Justin Bieber—has put his own stamp on this 1930s Mediterranean estate.

After buying the turnkey property for $8.495 million in 2018, he collaborated with interior designers Kathleen and Tommy Clements on a full renovation that revels in timeless, understated elegance.

Lorenzo and Clements Design gut renovated the interior: They added Steelworks windows and doors, and restored key architectural features such as the elaborate plasterwork ceiling in the dining room.

“The house is on one of the prime streets in Los Feliz,” said Tyrone McKillen of Plus Real Estate Group, who listed it in July. “Getting a turnkey Clements Design house for about $2,000 a square foot is a very good deal.”

The estate, which has a primary house and a guest house, was built for one of the founders of the Ralphs grocery chain, a brand that’s now owned by Kroger.

McKillen said Lorenzo, who is 46, likes creative projects and is already renovating another house for himself in Los Angeles.

Stats

The main residence, the guest house and poolside loggia encompass 7,200 square feet of living space and have a total of five bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

Amenities

The main living area of the primary residence features a fireplace, the gourmet kitchen has high-end appliances and marble countertops, and the office opens to a private terrace. The primary suite has a walk-in closet and a spa-like bath. The in-ground pool, lushly landscaped, is surrounded by a high privacy hedge. The grounds have a sports court, an outdoor lounge, a dining area and a garden with Japanese maple trees and water features.

Neighborhood Notes

Los Feliz, a hillside enclave that borders Griffith Park and its celebrated namesake observatory, is a mecca for creative types like Lorenzo.

“There also are a lot of young Hollywood families living there,” McKillen said. “You can drive to 10 world-class restaurants in five minutes, and with no traffic, you can be in Downtown Los Angeles in 10 minutes.”

In addition to the Lorenzo estate, the neighborhood is home to a historic 1923 movie palace, the Vista Theatre, and two Frank Lloyd Wright houses.
