Rita Ora and F1 star Lewis Hamilton find it ‘Easy’ on the piano

Lewis Hamilton is a man of many talents and the reigning F1 world champion demonstrated that once more as he enjoys time away from sport during the off-season.

On Sunday, footage emerged of the 30-year-old playing the piano in Miami while pop star Rita Ora sings via her Instagram account.

Accompanied with the caption: ‘Spontaneous times with @lewishamilton on piano singing a little bit of Lionel…..why not #bytheway #werenew #itsourfirstgig,’ the pair work in tandem for their very own rendition of the Commodores’ 1977 hit Easy.

And while Hamilton often had it easy on a Sunday morning in 2015 as he romped home with the F1 Drivers’ Championship, learning the piano hasn’t come naturally to him.

Writing in his F1 column for BBC Sport in October, the Brit revealed his desire to learn the musical instrument.

‘I have always wanted to learn the piano, but because I travel so much I can never get any consistency of lessons. So everywhere I go, if I can find a piano, even if it is in the lobby of a hotel or something, I go on YouTube and pick some songs to learn,’ he wrote.

‘Sometimes I just do it by ear and it is really coming together. At the moment, I can play three songs pretty much – Someone Like You by Adele, Easy (Like Sunday Morning) by the Commodores and When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars.

‘I’m trying to get those off really well before I focus on some others. And I’m thinking maybe over the winter I might try to get some lessons sorted.’

In December, Hamilton revealed snippets of his future debut album to fans and opened up about being ‘himself’ inside the music studio.

In December, the 30-year-old spoke to CBS and revealed snippets of his future debut album

Speaking to CBS’ 60-Minutes Overtime, Hamilton stated that his music has become a serious part of his life now, and not just a hobby.

He said: ‘Music’s been a huge passion of mine since I was really young, I started playing guitar when I was thirteen.’

‘In here, I can be me. I can be vulnerable. I can show a side of me that people don’t get to see.

‘The plan was that it always started as a hobby but it’s got a point now where it’s very serious, and we spend a lot of time in here. If I’m not training, getting ready for the race, I’m here.’

But despite his passion for music, Hamilton will be hoping to be singing from the rooftops come the end of the 2016 F1 season.

The Mercedes driver will be looking to become the first British driver to win four world titles – having won the previous two with the Silver Arrows as well as his 2008 triumph with McLaren.

The new season begins with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 20.
