Mauritius’s Amazing “Underwater Waterfall”.

Get ready to be enthralled by Mauritius’s amazing natural wonder, the “Underwater Waterfall.” This mesmerizing illusion is a sight to behold and is located near the southwest tip of the gorgeous island in the Indian Ocean.

The sand trails on the sea floor are washed away by the tide flowing through the reefs’ La Passe opening, creating the captivating sight. The movement of silt and sand deposits creates the remarkable appearance of a “underwater waterfall” when viewed from above.

The stunning Google Maps snapshot below and other satellite views highlight how spectacular this event is. It adds to the place’s charm and mystery by appearing as an underwater vortex that seems to be forming off the coast of this tropical paradise.

The towering Le Morne Brabant, a magnificent basaltic rock rising 556 meters (1,824 ft) above sea level, dominates the skyline. Situated on the Le Morne Brabant peninsula, its top covers an area of more than 12 hectares (30 acres). UNESCO has designated the entire region—known as the Le Morne Cultural Landscape—as a World Heritage Site.

During the 18th and early 19th centuries, fugitive slaves found refuge on the remote and difficult cliffs at Le Morne Brabant. In search of safety and independence, these brave people established tiny communities in the caverns and atop the rocky mountain. Le Morne is now a representation of the slaves’ struggle for freedom, tenacity, and sacrifices thanks to the oral traditions and tales connected to the “maroons.” Due to the enormous number of fugitive slaves who sought refuge on the mountain, Mauritius gained the nickname “Maroon republic” since it was a major player in the eastern slave trade.

Recently, videographer ReubenMRU took to the skies with his drone, offering a breathtaking perspective of Le Morne Brabant and the adjacent ‘underwater waterfall.’ The aerial footage showcases the awe-inspiring beauty of the location, highlighting the harmonious blend of natural wonders and historical significance.
