NBA player turned coach Luke Walton has just sold his home in Manhattan Beach, California, for $10.3 million.
The seven-bedroom property changed hands earlier this month, right ahead of Walton’s debut as lead assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons, who are playing their second game of the regular season Friday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers—where Walton was previously a coach.
Walton, 44, has also had coaching stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, following a 10-year playing career, the majority of which was spent with the Lakers.
He acquired the 10,000-square-foot home using a trust for $7.2 million in 2017, records with PropertyShark show.
Following the purchase, Walton and his family embarked on major renovation, in which “almost every surface of the house was changed, upgraded,” said listing agent Nick Schneider of the Schneider Properties team at Compass, who handled the sale of property along with colleague Nathan Stagg. Walton is the son of NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton, who died in May at age 71.
“They loved the house, loved the bones, but wanted to put their spin on it,” Schneider said.
Walton was working as the head coach of the Lakers when he bought the property, and though he moved on from the local team—who play just an hour or so away—he hung onto the house until now.
Now he’s based in Detroit, “he was like, ‘you guys, we have to sell it,’” Schneider said.
The house has “a majestic foyer,” with an imperial staircase, indoor/outdoor living spaces, a sports bar with an entertaining room, a home theater, a gym, a wine cellar speakeasy, a gift-wrapping room, and a pool and spa.
Schneider and Stagg also represented the buyer, a local family, in the deal, Schneider said.
