Conor McGregor predicted exactly how he’d knock out José Aldo and he was scarily accurate

UFC superstar Conor McGregor turned his pre-fight prediction into reality at UFC 194.

The summit of Conor McGregor‘s rapid ascent to UFC superstardom was on full display at UFC 194 when he challenged then-UFC featherweight champion José Aldo in the main event. McGregor’s pre-fight mental warfare towards Aldo resulted in one of the wildest knockouts in MMA history, and the Irish phenom called it.

After earning the interim UFC featherweight championship over Chad Mendes at UFC 189, McGregor got his long-awaited showdown with Aldo just months later at UFC 194. McGregor was unbeaten in his professional tenure ahead of the Aldo fight, but despite this, many believed McGregor would get a rude awakening from the titleholder.

Months of bad blood brewed between McGregor and Aldo ahead of their UFC 194 title fight. The two featherweights got into several altercations ahead of fight night, including at the UFC 194 ceremonial weigh-in.

In one of McGregor’s final pre-fight faceoffs with Aldo, he noticed a minor body language hint that led him to predict how their fight would play out.

Conor McGregor called how he’d knock out José Aldo at UFC 194

In a pre-fight interview with Robin Black, McGregor revealed his prediction for his fight with Aldo.

“I felt when we stared down, I felt his right hand was twitching, which was a subtle tell for me. He’s ready to unload that right hand and I feel that could be a downfall for him. If he lets that right hand go, I will not be there,” McGregor said.

“I simply enter the way I enter and that is it. They either over-extend or they shrink away. Either way, it is not good for them. I will create traps and dead space inside that Octagon. I will walk him into that dead space. All of a sudden he will be in danger.” (h/t Sports Joe)

What resulted from McGregor’s pre-fight prediction was a 13-second knockout. After Aldo charged forward with a right hand McGregor countered perfectly with a left.

Black then revisited McGregor’s prediction at the pre-fight press conference and asked McGregor for his thoughts on the eerie similarity to how the Aldo fight played out.

“If you can see it, and you have the courage enough to speak it, it will happen,” McGregor replied.

Conor McGregor’s sensational UFC 194 KO revisited

Just three fights later, McGregor became the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division world champion when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. After Aldo won the interim belt at UFC 200, McGregor vacated the lineal featherweight title.

McGregor also successfully predicted knockout wins over Dennis Siver, Dustin Poirier, and Donald Cerrone during his career. But the Aldo prediction was by far his most detailed pre-fight prediction, making the UFC 194 result all the more incredible.

As McGregor prepares for a potential boxing match with Logan Paul, one of his greatest UFC moments remains a hot topic amongst fans and pundits. If he returns to the Octagon for another fight, McGregor will look to recreate his earlier magic.
