Conor McGregor watches on as teammate is dropped and choked out at Bellator Dublin

Conor McGregor put his injury troubles to one side to help a teammate at Bellator Dubin.

‘Notorious’ was in the corner for Sinead Kavanagh’s fight with Arlene Blencowe at the 3Arena on Saturday night – but things didn’t go as expected.

Kavanagh was dropped by a massive right hand in round two.

A camera in the corner caught McGregor’s devastated reaction as he watched his long-time friend take a bunch of ground strikes before being submitted.

Blencowe locked up an extremely tight standing guillotine choke when Kavanagh tried to get back to her feet.

The bloody Irish MMA star had no choice but to tap out in front of her hometown fans.

McGregor was disappointed about the result but full of praise for his teammate when he spoke with UFC legend Dan Hardy post-fight.

“I see the work Sinead is putting in, she’s doing a hell of a lot of work with coach [John] Kavanagh,” he said.

“Sinead comes from a striking background, she’s a five-time amateur national champion in Ireland, which is known for its high pedigree of boxing.

“We are trying to get her back to her roots and finding her shots.

“It was close and she looked well. She faced a tough opponent, they fought each other before, and they know each other.

“Back to the drawing board. Onwards we go. I’m proud. I’m happy to come here and support. We go again.”

McGregor then gave an update on himself after recently announcing that he will not fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29 due to a broken pinky toe.

He added: “I had a little lapse in concentration and I had to reschedule the bout.”

“I’m a little upset about that, but it’s keeping me dialled in and it’s keeping me focused. I can’t rock around like I’m after showing up and doing my job.

“The job is not done. You know, that’s not bad for me. I’m onwards towards my new date and taking my lessons learnt. It was a lapse in concentration.

“If I was any one of these other little bums who can’t move, have no footwork and don’t rely on their skills, then I would be okay.

“I’ve done it before. I’ve made the walk a multitude of times under those circumstances and given these bums an advantage over me that they don’t even deserve.

“Now, I’m dialling it in. I’m getting this training camp correct and I’m walking into there 100 per cent Conor McGregor. Injury free.

“Perfection is on the menu.”
