During Chiefs training camp, Patrick Mahomes and Xavier Worthy connect once more for a disputed touchdown.

Patrick Mahomes has clearly already been enjoying his new target in Xavier Worthy. That looked so again with the latest clip between the two during training camp from Saint Joseph.

Mahomes slung one deep to Worthy for a touchdown earlier on in camp for Kansas City. Now, the pair connected once more for a contested score for the Chiefs rookie wide receiver from his elite quarterback.

Worthy arrives in Kansas City after being the No. 28 overall pick by the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL Draft. They selected him after he spent after a three-year collegiate career at Texas where he caught 197 passes for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns as a Longhorn. He also more than earned that stock after showing off his top-notch speed by breaking the combine record with a 4.21 in the 40-yard dash.

Again, the pick of Worthy is one that must please the face of the franchise, as well as the league, in Mahomes. Since Kansas City traded away Tyreek Hill, his targets, beyond Travis Kelce, have not been nearly as reliable or productive with names like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Sky Moore, Kadarius Toney, and Justin Watson. Rashee Rice had been the best in the corps after his own rookie season last year.

Now, the Chiefs have invested back into pass catchers for Mahomes and the offense. That includes signing Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown as well as drafting Worthy. Both of them along with the rest of their pieces should inject more juice into the unit for Mahomes.

This duo could be an explosive one moving forward for Kansas City. That’s why it’s so promising to see Mahomes and Worthy already building their chemistry early on in the preseason.

Mahomes hits Worthy for 60-yard bomb

Training camp began last Sunday for the Kansas City Chiefs and offensive fireworks are already flying on the campus of Missouri Western State University.

On day one, Patrick Mahomes and Xavier Worthy have already shown by connecting on a 60-yard completion that went into the end zone. Mahomes rolled out to his left on the play as he was being chased by defenders, set his hips, and placed the bomb where only the speedy rookie could catch it before he fell into the end zone.

This wasn’t the only highlight from a Mahomes-Worthy connection either. A separate play saw Worthy run a sort of flag route to the right numbers where the first-round draft choice made the diving grab with two defenders in his vicinity.
