Michael Jordan and his mother, Deloris, establish their third medical clinic in their homeland of North Carolina, following a startling $10 million contribution

Along with his mother Deloris, Michael Jordan attended the launch of his family’s third medical clinic in North Carolina on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old Jordan and the healthcare organization Novant Health have partnered to open the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic on Greenfield Street in Wilmington. The clinic will provide medical care to individuals who lack insurance or have inadequate insurance.

The legendary basketball player, who already owns two other clinics in Charlotte, gave an astounding $10 million to establish all three of his hometown’s medical facilities.

Along with his mother Deloris, he celebrated the third clinic’s grand inauguration earlier this week, announcing his intention to provide Wilmington residents with “much-needed comprehensive primary care services.”

“No matter where you live or if you have insurance, everyone is worthy of access to quality health care,” Jordan stated in a release obtained by People. He continued by saying that he is “truly inspired by the many powerful stories of people who are now thriving thanks to the support of our Charlotte medical clinics.”

“It will positively impact individuals and families throughout Wilmington,” said to the Chicago Bulls legend, who is “profoundly grateful to help make this day happen for my hometown.”

At the celebration on Tuesday, Jordan, who is reported to be worth $3.2 billion, and his mother officially opened the family’s third medical clinic in North Carolina by cutting a purple ribbon.

On that particular day, the two spoke briefly to the crowd from a podium, while MJ was spotted conversing with Dr. Michael Hoben in the lobby.

A large number of patients who come to Jordan’s clinics are reported to have ‘never had a primary care provider before’ and express gratitude to the medical staff for ‘helping restore health and a sense of optimism’.

According to the press release, the newest center will have 12 patient rooms and be staffed by a primary care team and a community health worker to help patients.

When Jordan was a little child, his family moved to Wilmington from Brooklyn, New York, where he was born.

It was in North Carolina where the future six-time NBA champion would showcase his early potential at college, before he was selected by Chicago with the third overall pick at the 1984 Draft.

Nine years later, Jordan suffered a devastating personal tragedy when his father, James R. Jordan Sr, was shot and killed in Lumberton after pulling over in a parking lot to sleep in his car, before two men later charged with the murder got away with his vehicle.

Supporting North Carolina has always been of importance to Michael, who previously owned a stake in Charlotte’s NBA team, the Hornets, before selling his majority stake for $3billion last year.

Jordan also recently saw plans for a Wilmington museum in his honor – as part of a broader investment into the downtown area called ‘Project Grace’ – fall through after the family decided not to pursue the project.
