Mae West is asking US$6 million for her former Los Angeles residence.

The famed actress Mae West, who was well-known for her brilliant one-liners and keen wit, is selling her former beach mansion in Los Angeles.

The home is located in Santa Monica’s Rustic Canyon neighborhood and is advertised for little less than US$6 million.

Built in the 1920s in the Mediterranean style, the property spans an impressive 315 square meters and has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, according to the Robb Report.

The home’s interior blends modern upgrades with historic beauty, while the exterior of the white stucco house and terracotta roof reflects a traditional look.

The home’s distinct character is enhanced by arched entrances, wide picture windows, colorful wallpaper, hardwood floors, and decorative tile work.

West, who lived in multiple homes in Los Angeles until his death in 1980 at the age of 87, owned this particular property.

The latest owners of the mansion were real estate investors John Sauter and his wife LeeAnn, an entrepreneur and designer, for US$2.3 million in 2004.

The Sauters relisted the house for US$8.3 million in late 2022, but since then, they have brought it down in price and are leasing it out for $24,500 a month.

The almost quarter-acre lot offers seclusion and peace of mind thanks to its high fences and gates.

The house has extra parking for up to three cars in addition to a detached two-car garage.

Mature trees, well-kept gardens, and a number of outside seating and leisure spaces, including a roof deck with a built-in hot tub, are all features of the terraced grounds.

The opulent living area with a fireplace and French doors opening to the rear is reached through the large foyer that is revealed when the double entrance doors open.

A floor-to-ceiling china cabinet graces the formal dining room, while the chef’s kitchen boasts an eat-in island, premium Viking equipment, a custom pot rack, and a quaint breakfast nook with banquette seating.

The original tiled fireplace, a boutique-style closet with display shelves, a wet bar, a Juliet balcony, and a light-filled sunroom that doubles as an office are all located upstairs in the main suite.

There are two vanities, a soaking tub, and a separate shower in the opulent bathroom.

According to Jonathan Mogharrabi, who is listing the property alongside Marci Kays of Carolwood Estates, “buyers will be buying a piece of history.”

“It brings you right back to the 1920s with a vintage modern flair. We see the home likely going to someone who is creative and artistic, with a keen eye for design and style.”
